Probably the newest and the most waited for game around. If you don't know when it is to come out, id software says August 31 is the final release date. The graphics on this awesome game is, well, awesome. When you shoot one of the enemies in it, you can see them clutching their heads in agony. Unlike Doom, or any of those "old" 3D shoot-em-up games, when you shoot a creature, it doesn't just go right on attacking you, but it stops, similar in real life, and struggles to get back up again. Realistic, don't you say? I mean, when you get shot with a shotgun, you won't just stand there, right? Furthermore, this is probably the first game that a creature doesn't only attack you by means of guns or rocket lauchers - some enemies jump at you and start clawing your eyes out. Those are the quicker, more agile creatures. Others attack you with chain saws and are the tougher, bulkier ones. This aspect of the game makes it more fair to play and less frustrating then, for instance, attacking some humongous creature that has a large aresenal of weapons and a lot of endurance.

My complaints for this game are few, if any at all. The first and foremost is that there is no storyline to this at all - you just pick up an axe and a shotgun and start blasting the heck out of other creatures. Although it isn't that big of a deal, it does help to know what the point is of killing all those innocent creatues :). Another disapointment was having to do with the weapons. Even though the Nail-gun was a pretty cool alternative to a chaingun, a bunch of the weapons just a "super" version of the old one. For instance, there is the shotgun, then the SUPER shotgun, and the Nail-gun, then the SUPER Nail-gun, and the grenade launcher, then the Rocket launcher. If Quake is to make it big in the computer game market, adding new and different weapons would be a VERY good start. Other complaints of mine are minor at most, like when you shoot a wall it doesn't leave and marks, and when you get extra energy (Megasphere in Doom/Doom II, Atomic energy in Duke3D), it only last for a certain amount of time.

Although this game came out long ago, it is still one of the best 3D shoot-em-up in the market, right next to Quake. This game is very similar to Quake, yet very different. The shoot-em-up aspect of the game is still the same, but the people at 3D Realms give this one a bit more of a humorous twist to it, and smoother graphics, without the use of polygons. The weapons are very original, to say the least. Most of the weapons are totally different from Doom/Doom II's. The only weapons that have some likeness to Doom's are the shotgun and chaingun, and maybe the RPG. Even the pistol in Duke3D is totally different than Doom's! As useless as you may think a pistol is, it is actually a very powerful weapon. Well, maybe not in how much damage can be done, compared to like the RPG or something, but by firing capability and speed, the Duke pistol is 100 times more useful than Doom's. Even in a deathmatch, when your opponent has a Shrinker, using a pistol and with a little luck, you can probably kick his butt!

Other weapons are very creatively designed and have the advantages and disadvantages. For instance, the freeze-thrower can do tons of damage and fires very rapidly, but it's "bullets" can bounce off walls and therefore hit you too. If you're not careful, you can almost kill yourself! It's monsters are drawn very well, although my complaint about them are that there are too few in variety. In the first couple levels, I have seen only about 3 or 4 kinds of creatures!!! I don't know about you, but killing creature after creature of the same kind gets kinda boring, don't you think?

However, despite my complaints, I think this game is the most well-created since Doom, and it comes very close to being the best 3D shoot-em-up ever made!

<YAWN> Another cheap imitation of the all-time classic, Sim City. Although some of the features are nice, including the humoristic twist of building heaven and hell, the game is, on the whole, a copy of Sim City. Some aspects of the game are excellent, for example the narration and helpfulness of the Devil and the Angel. The graphics are phenomenal, and the music has the motif of the game as well, as some of it is dreary, while other songs are happy and cheerful. Learning the game is a total pain; it is so complicated that you don't really know where to start, and hard even if you have played other games like it, although it is nice to have some Sim-City 2000 experience beforehand.
